Archival research and what makes it difficult

Research in archives is labour-intensive and takes considerable time. It is carried out using historical documents containing genealogical information — parish registers, census books, confession registers and others. If your ancestors were military officers, clergy, merchants or nobility, it is also necessary to examine student rolls of educational institutions, books of the nobility, service records, clergy registers and similar sources.

The main difficulty in archival research is the lack of continuity between the imperial era before 1917 and the later Soviet period. For this reason, if you do not know your ancestors from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, reconstructing your family history reliably becomes extremely difficult — additional research through civil registry office books, departmental, military and other archival records will be required.

Specialists of the International Genealogical Center are able to carry out research in Russia, the CIS countries and even further abroad. Extensive experience, IT solutions and high professional qualifications allow us to locate the required documents and information in the shortest possible time, and to organise the results in the form you need.

As a result, you receive a reliable family tree in which every element is supported by documentary evidence. All information is structured, with an outline of what further research can achieve.
